Rev. Stephanie Anthony

Pastor Stephanie has been in ministry as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA) since 2002, having served urban, small town, and suburban congregations in Nebraska, Wisconsin, and most recently, Illinois. She is a proud, self-described Presby-nerd whose love of God and God’s people was part of her church upbringing in Indialantic, Florida. She can also claim deep Pennsylvania roots on the maternal side of her family tree. Pastor Stephanie has degrees from the College of William and Mary (B.S.) and Columbia Theological Seminary (M.Div.). She is committed to continuing education and spiritual growth that supports the church being a loving neighbor beyond its four walls. Pastor Stephanie’s family includes her husband, Phillip, and young adult and teen children, Karoline, William, and Margaret, as well as their rescued, furry, and four-legged members, Chloe and Rosie. The Anthony family is very musical, and Stephanie herself plays the string bass. For her part, Stephanie enjoys knitting and going to the movie theatre. She also loves to travel and would return to some of her favorite destinations, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala and Scotland, in a heartbeat. Herself-designed perfect day would include: a nature walk, the company of loved ones, hanging out at a pub or coffee shop, maybe a music festival or any quick-friend-making communal experience, and really good, local food.

Dear FPCA family, Most of our Sundays this Lent have been centered around parables that Jesus told after he had set his face toward Jerusalem, that is after he began his journey toward the city where he would die at the hands of the powerful who feared his words, actions, and promise of transformation. I […]

Pastor, educator, and theologian Rodger Nishioka tells a story about studying the Parable of the Lost Sheep while participating in an ecumenical dialogue with members of the Russian Orthodox Church. He made reference to the parable by that name with his conversation partners and it derailed things for a little bit as the group tried […]

Dear FPCA family, I am excited to participate in my first baptism in this congregation this coming Sunday at the 11:00 am service. At both English-speaking services I’ll share a moment with the children of the church to talk about what it means to share this joyful sacrament in the Body of Christ. I love […]

I mentioned when I first preached here at First Presbyterian Church in Allentown, that I’m not one to let an introductory clause go when it kicks off a passage of scripture. That Sunday morning in January the text we read from Isaiah began, “But now thus says the Lord,” begging the question. “What did this […]

Dear FPCA family, As I’ve been discovering wonderful things about First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, I sometimes wonder, “Does everyone know this?!?” It’s always with great excitement about something that I hope isn’t a hidden blessing. I thought maybe I’d share some of these from time to time in case it might help more of […]

No one was more surprised than I was a few years ago when I found myself hitting the “record” button on my TV to make sure I didn’t miss an overnight Formula 1 car race. I got sucked into the actual racing after discovering the Netflix reality show Drive to Survive that has been following […]

Dear FPCA family, I continue to be grateful for the warm welcome I am receiving in our church and throughout the Lehigh Valley. Both aspects are a blessing to me. I have a lot of fun telling people in the community why I moved here and where I serve. Often, they share back with me […]

Through a lens of mercy There was a conversation this week in an internet forum for church leaders, that was centered around safety training and devices, like automated external defibrillators (or AEDs), and whether or not a church should have one. One commenter was worried that if the church had one, but it’s use was […]

Dear FPCA Family, I am so grateful for the welcome you shared with me last week as I spent my first Sunday with you. The smiles, handshakes, and hugs were a blessing as I start to settle into this family of faith. This Sunday is the first week of worship in which we explore our […]
