In the fall of 2023, I was getting a haircut by the same hairdresser I have had for 30 years. She noticed a “bump” on the crown of my head that she said she had never seen before, and she recommended that I have a doctor look at it.
So the next time I had a checkup I mentioned it to my doctor. She said it looked like a sebaceous cyst, and she referred me to a general surgeon who confirmed her diagnosis. Neither doctor felt it was cancerous, but because I was irritating it every time I brushed my hair, the surgeon scheduled surgery for me to have it removed.
The week before the surgery (which was in January 2024), I developed a sinus infection, and my surgery had to be postponed.
The next available time was March 2024.
A week before this new surgery date, I went to the surgeon’s office for my pre-op visit. As the PA examined the lump, she remarked that it did not feel like a cyst anymore, but more like bone. It had hardened and did not move. My sebaceous cyst was no longer a cyst! My surgery was canceled.
No one at the surgeon’s office could figure out how this cyst had become bone. If I hadn’t had to postpone the January surgery, would this have happened?? A Godwink to be sureā¦
