Dear FPCA family,
I continue to be grateful for the warm welcome I am receiving in our church and throughout the Lehigh Valley. Both aspects are a blessing to me. I have a lot of fun telling people in the community why I moved here and where I serve. Often, they share back with me their positive experiences with our church. They affirm for me what I learned in the call process. First Presbyterian Church is a loving witness to Christ in the Lehigh Valley.
When we gather for worship on Sunday, we’ll look at another passage from the gospel according to Luke. In fact, this story of Jesus visiting Martha’s house is the story that immediately follows the parable of the Good Samaritan that we heard last week. The 7 days between our gatherings may separate them more in our minds than they are in the narrative. In reality, these two stories probably go hand in hand – one a story of showing Christlike mercy and neighborliness through action, the other highlighting mindful devotion through relationship and listening. When we separate them, we might be tempted to think Jesus ranks these aspects of discipleship. However, maybe we don’t have to pit them (and people) against each other.
We’ll see you on Sunday!
Peace,
