Dear FPCA family,

There has been a flurry of activity around the church building this week that all points to a “new year” just around the corner. Even though not all of us in our congregation have young people in the home who are going back to school, the seasonal pattern of summer turning to fall still has an impact on the flow of life here at church.  Thanks to our building staff and several volunteers, two massive trucks of mulch have been moved from the parking lot to the playground to make that space more hospitable to children than to weeds. The Faith Formation catalog that lets folks know what opportunities we will have this fall to grow in the knowledge and love of God is in production. I can hear people talking about plans for the Homecoming celebration on September 13 that are coming together. Choir music has been picked out and rehearsals are being scheduled. We’re even laying out the themes and communication plans for the annual financial stewardship campaign. It’s an exciting time of year as we look forward to important traditions and even simply the regular rhythm of being together for worship, prayer, and fellowship.

In worship this week we’re going to flip back to the Hebrew Scriptures to look at God’s call to Moses from the burning bush. Moses didn’t have any idea why God might choose him or what God could do through him. Standing on holy ground, engaged in holy conversation, he sought understanding, but what he got was a promise. We’ll hear more about that promise on Sunday. See you then!
