Dear Friends in Christ:
“O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures
…Bless the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord!
–Psalm 104
Next Thursday, we will be doing that: praising God in our outdoor Caring for Creation service. The service will be simple but meaningful as we sing, pray, and reflect on the gifts of God’s creation and our responsibility to care for that creation. We will also give thanks for God’s creatures and there will be a blessing of the animals. Please join us on Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. on the golf course side of the church, with or without a pet. We will have some chairs, but please bring a lawn chair if you can. As you can understand, pets need to be leashed or caged, and there will be light refreshments following the service provided by the Worship Team.
Tomorrow (Friday) is the church-sponsored Par for the Cause golf tournament to raise money for the Y’s Warming Station, which offers shelter to the homeless during the winter. You can support the cause without playing golf by participating in the silent auction – but you have to hurry!.
Finally, I hope you can join us for worship on “Imago Dei” Sunday when we recognize and celebrate how we are all created in the image of God and are God’s beloved children, no matter our sexual orientation, no matter whom we love, or how we identify to others. We hope you will also stop by to see members from our congregation and other Presbyterian congregations at our table at the Lehigh Valley Pride Festival on August 18, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the SteelStacks in Bethlehem.
See you Sunday,
Carter Lester, Interim Lead Pastor
